Dr Kamarachev obtained his medical degree at the University of Sofia, Bulgaria. He prepared his doctoral thesis in Zurich, Switzerland and defended it at the University of Zurich in 2000. He obtained his board certification in Dermatology and Venerology in 1996 (Sofia) and 2004 (Zurich). He started his dermatopatholy training with Prof. E. Obreshkova in Sofia and later with Prof. G. Burg and Prof. R. Dummer in Zurich. In 2006 he passed the European Board Certification Exam in dermatopathology and has worked since then as a dermatopathologist at the Department of Dermatology in Zurich. Since 2015 he has been chief of the dermatopathology unit there.

His team examines about 30,000 skin samples per year. He is strongly involved in the training of future dermatologists and dermatopathologists and regularly organises and carries out dermatopathology courses for residents. His dermatopathology unit is an accredited training center of the international and European committees for dermatopathology (ICDP and UEMS).

He is invited speaker at many congresses and meetings in Switzerland and abroad, mainly on dermatopathology and dermatoses of the oral mucosa. His focus of research is in the fields of dermatopathology and experimental immunohistochemistry and he has published over a 100 articles in renouned medical journals.
